Lumi is a small group tuition centre in Bishan and Clementi built on a simple belief: when students genuinely understand what they're learning, everything else follows — confidence, results, and a healthier relationship with school.
Lumi was founded by educators who had seen the same pattern repeat itself across Singapore classrooms: students who were working hard, attending tuition, completing worksheets — and still not really understanding.
The problem wasn't effort. It was that most tuition had become a system for producing correct answers, not for building genuine understanding. Students who could solve a textbook problem would freeze when the question was phrased differently.
We believed there was a better way. Small groups, patient teaching, and a classroom culture where asking questions is encouraged — not embarrassing. A place where the goal is for students to genuinely understand the material, not just perform it.
That's Lumi. A tuition centre in Bishan and Clementi built around what we know about how students actually learn — and a commitment to never compromise on class size, teaching quality or the experience of being in the room.
These aren't aspirational values written for a website. They're the decisions we make every day about how classes run, how teachers teach, and how we talk to students and parents.
We never move to the next topic until the current one is genuinely clear. Covering content quickly is not the same as teaching it.
With a maximum of 3 students, no one sits quietly confused without a teacher noticing. That's the whole point of small groups.
Learning requires attempting things you're not sure about. We build classrooms where that feels possible — not risky.
Spaced repetition, retrieval practice, cognitive load — we use what the evidence says works, and we explain why to students.
You'll always know how your child is doing — not just at exam time. We believe teachers and parents work best as partners.
We're not a franchise. Our teachers are invested in this community, and take long-term responsibility for every student we teach.
The best way to understand what Lumi is — is to experience a class. No commitment, no hard sell. Just come and see whether it feels right for your child.
